Century High School

Location: Sykesville, Maryland
Client: Bovis Lend Lease, Inc.
Architect: SHW Group, Inc.

With construction completed in 2001, Century High School serves as a marquee model facility for Carroll County’s public school infrastructure growth and development. Featuring over 204,000 square feet of quality learning and enrichment space, the interior and exterior design is well appointed with architectural masonry veneer assemblies of utility brick, architectural concrete masonry units, cast stone and traditional concrete masonry partitions.

A key element of the architectural design by Grimm and Parker Architects included saw-tooth brick veneer walls that flanked the interior of the auditorium. This dramatic brick workmanship served as a unique design characteristic of the space as well as an acoustical advantage. Under the construction management of Bovis Lend Lease, the construction team collaborated for the timely completion of the new high school that included over 340,000 square feet of concrete masonry units and 50,000 square feet of architectural brick.
